The General Directorate of Agricultural Reform of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey convened the “Agricultural Technologies and Mechanization Sector Meeting” on June 9, 2026. Dr. Ahmet Bağcı, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, presided over the meeting.

Deputy Minister Dr. Ahmet Bağcı, Chief of Staff Çağrı Gülelçin, Deputy General Director Kutluhan Özdemir, Department Head Dr. Mustafa Gezici, Department Head Salih Sınıkçı, Acting Director of TAMTEST Dr. Nihat Sönmez, and other Ministry officials were present, along with representatives from the TARMAKBİR Board of Directors and businesses.

The current status of the farm machinery and mechanization industry, the decline in the domestic market, issues with financing availability, the prospects for exports, unfair competition, incentive programs, and the modernization of the agricultural mechanization park were all discussed at the meeting.

The assessments highlighted the strategic importance of the Turkish agricultural machinery sector. It was stated that the sector ranks among the top in the general machinery industry in terms of employment, production value, domestic market volume and the rate of localization in the domestic market. It was also noted that the sector has made significant progress in terms of exports. It was projected that Turkey’s agricultural machinery exports would exceed $1.5 billion by 2025, generating a trade surplus of around $400 million and placing the country 17th in the world.

However, it was noted that the domestic market has recently experienced a significant contraction. For instance, it is projected that tractor production will decrease by 41 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, falling to 42,734 units. The contraction became even more pronounced in the first four months of 2026, with tractor registrations decreasing by around 67 percent compared to the same period last year, falling to 6,646 units. Similar problems were reported in other agricultural machinery groups as well.
